Deep Ocean Power Science Laboratory was funded by the W.M. Keck Foundation in 2012 for studying unique hydrate science in deep ocean conditions.
The overarching goal of the W.M. Keck Deep Ocean Power Science project was to develop and promulgate hydrate science relevant to a sustainable future in energy and the environment. The goal is to provide the energy and environment scientific research platform for encouraging hydrate research. Key features that the Keck foundation supported for the establishment at UCI are the demonstration of the high pressure facilities and the diagnostic capabilities of the DOPSL, and to present the leadership in hydrate combustion for energy extraction and understanding the implication of utilizing fuel clathrates. The final specific aim is the expansion of hydrate science for energy and the environment.
